Hmm, Interesting.
1. I guess the first one is the fact that when he holds the pencil magnet next to the balls as they are spinning they are attracted to it. As each ball is attracted to the magnet it moves round so that the next ball is attracted and again, and again. Thus, the balls accelerate.
The lights are just there for show...
2. No idea.
