Topic: The KNTL Website 2.0

Greetings one and all!

There are some rather exciting updates planned for the KNTL website. Primarily, I will be switching forum software (kind of). I have been waiting for the release of PunBB 1.3, the website is currently running 1.2, for a long time now – far too long. Thankfully, some of the main developers of PunBB 1.3 have quit the project due to various reasons and are now working on a fork of PunBB called FluxBB. I will be switching to this new forum, FluxBB 1.3.

FluxBB 1.3 is far more advanced than the current install of PunBB that we have. It will provide many more features and vastly improve the current features. The current theme of the KNTL site will be ported to the new site and improved along the way (with a little help from Zimmer wink).

FluxBB will improve, as far as you, the end user, is concerned: Searching, legibility, speed, navigation, and consistency. That is to say, the site will be faster; users will be able to properly search the site; and it will be easier to both read and navigate.

There will be large improvements to the clan information pages, the arcade will be scrapped and a new one will be installed, and tabbed browsing will be introduced where it is not currently and improved where does exist at the moment.

Plenty of security fixes will be implemented too, protecting both our forums and your personal information.

There will be a restructure of the forums. Some new forums will be introduced, reflecting the needs of the members and the games that you are all currently playing. Other forums will be deleted and/or replaced. Additionally, relating to the new hierarchy that is to be implemented: There will be new ‘private’ forums for the community and the clan members. Not all forums will be visible to Guests, not all to Members, and not all to Community Members.

As an addition to this, I will also be making some userbars, signature images, avatars, buttons, and the like for people to use and wear to show off to people that they are either part of the KNTL Clan or the KNTL Community.

Maybe even a PHP script to generate personalized images. smile

Actually, I'll probably get someone else to make the images - or perhaps to come up with a concept - as I'm not fantastic at Photoshop/etc or a particularly creative/artistic person. Perhaps a competition ...

Sounds great!  I really do like the tabbed links you have at the top; I thought it was a professional touch when I first visited the site.  The theme is simple and clean as well, did a KNTL member make it or was it pre-made?

Zimmer made that tab navigation. I think he made it from scratch, if not then it's a customized/improved version of a free script.

FluxBB 1.3 has some inbuilt tab navigation, so I'll probably use that code and port it to the main navigation (the tabbed navigation on Flux is never used on the main navigation).

Nah man, I will be seriously improving this style with FluxBB. I mean seriously. It's alright now, but it needs some spicing up and some sexiness.

I will also redesign the tabs ( they look a bit iffy now )

I wouldn't suggest that you start the style now as the css markups are suppose to change.

I would like to keep the same colors, and maybe save this old forum or move it to new one...
Reasons: Colors we have on this forum are unique compared to other crappy ones, and i like these colors and cannot think any other color on our site. Plus this forum has a lot of information on it, if you wont be able or dont want to ,move it on new forum, then save this forum to other location like "kntl.co.uk/oldsite/"

Changes to the colour shceme will be minimal. The main colours will be kept with a few additional variations of these colours added for definition.

The current forums will not be lost, they will be converted. Things that will be kept:

- Forum data
- Topic & post data
- User accounts and everything associated with them

Things that may no longer function or may be removed:

- Arcade
- PMs (system will be update, old PMs will be lost)
- Gallery

If I've missed anything out of the above lists then apply logic and decide if that data is important or not. If it is important, it will be kept.

Are the most important for me, i dont care about arcade, gallery or PMs really.
Arcade was hacked by me, gallery never had anything THAT important and PMs are stuff you read once and then save them for small change of possible future need...

BTW, the title of this topic doesn't mean Web 2.0, it just means that this will be the second version of the KNTL site.
