Topic: Restructure

Hello, if you’re not a great reader, don’t have time, or aren’t overly fussed then skip to the bottom and read the tl;dr summary smile.

Coupled with the planned updates to the website itself, I am also planning a restructure of the way KNTL works. This, clearly, will instigate some restructuring of the website too. Other implications of this new system will be that we will not be accepting any new members to KNTL for the next few weeks while all of this new system is implemented, and the site is updated.

The main factor in this restructure is that I will be introducing the new concept of a ‘KNTL Community’. That is to say, before people can even think about applying to join the clan, they will have to apply and join the community first.

The hierarchy of membership status within KNTL will thus be as follows:

1.    Members
2.    Community Members
3.    Trial Clan Members
4.    Clan Members
5.    Senior Clan Members
6.    Clan Moderators
7.    Administrators

Anyone will be able to join the KNTL website. Guests will be able to view a select few forums while Members will be able to view and post in these forums as well as a couple of other forums. Community Members will be able to post in all of the forums that Guests and Members can post in as well as a couple more private forums (forums that can only be viewed by persons of status Community Member or higher. And so the process continues: The higher up you are in the Clan and Community, the more status, privileges and 'power' you have.

This hierarchy will, as well as affecting forum permissions, affect permissions and privileges within the clan and community themselves.

New Members will be encouraged to introduce themselves and will have to apply to become Community Members and Community Members will have to apply to become Clan Members. Clan Members, however, will not be able to apply to become Senior Members, this will be an invitation only group. Clan Member’s decisions will be taken into account and will probably be the deciding factor when people apply to be a Community Member and. Also, as is currently the case, the Clan Member’s thoughts and decisions will be taken into account when the clan accepts new Clan Members. Though, ultimately it is the Senior Clan Members who decide who to let in and who not to let in.

Clan Moderators are not for moderating the intake of members, nor reprimanding members, they are for moderating the forums when required. Though, since no one higher than a Senior Clan Member can be a Clan Moderator, their jobs will be entwined. Clan Moderators will have no more ‘power’ than Senior Clan Members as far as the clan is concerned.

As has always been the case and, I hope, will always be the case: All final decisions will reside with me and James (KillingSpree), the founders of KNTL.
The idea behind this new system is so that KNTL can expand exponentially, but in a controlled manner. This new-and-improved hierarchy will enforce Members to be involved before they can join the community; it will force Community Members to be involved and be on, say, first name terms with the majority of the members before they can join the Clan; and so on.

Unfortunately, some current Clan Members are going to be demoted to Community Members. This is because they have not pledged their allegiance to the clan in the eyes of the current Senior Clan Members; because they have not been active within the clan; or have not integrated into the clan as well as we (myself and the Senior Clan Members) would have liked.

Please do not post asking if “I am someone who is going to be demoted to a Community Member”. For one, it’s not a big deal – you can reapply. And secondly, the chances are that if you’ve read this topic and liked what you’ve read then you are not one of those people described in the paragraph above.
If you have any questions, queries or objections then please post them!

Much love,

Adam | liquidat0r

tl;dr

A few changes are going to be taking place within KNTL:

•    An introduction of a KNTL Community
•    There will be a new member hierarchy
•    Restructure of the site and forums

I read it all because I'm awesome.

Conclusion: mint.

What must one do to join the "community". I post on this forum and play TF2 with you guys occasionally, is that sufficient?

In short, DoctaStrangelove, I don't know.

I am currently writing the 'requirements' to join the community and the benefits of being in the community. As soon as I have something written, I will let you know. There won't be many requirements, if at all. In fact, I'm reluctant to call them requirements as the idea is that the community is open for everyone.

People will probably just have to introduce themselves; say why they want to join; and stuff like that.

That's pretty good Ad, you've obviously put a fair amount of thought into it.

Slight edit, this bit has changed from:

New Members will be encouraged to introduce themselves and will have to apply to become Community Members; Community Members will have to apply to become Clan Members; Clan Members will have to apply to become Senior Members; and so on.

To:

New Members will be encouraged to introduce themselves and will have to apply to become Community Members and Community Members will have to apply to become Clan Members. Clan Members, however, will not be able to apply to become Senior Members, this will be an invitation only group.

At the wishes of some normal and senior clan members.

Nice text, really nice plans big_smile

This is how kntl should have been, i like this and it sounds seriously as good as other plans we have up and running xD
I except nothing less from you Adam wink

This is pretty much in place now. You'll notice all the links at the top explaining about what each rank in the hierarchy is and how to join KNTL. It's incomplete (and the layout is temporary), but at least we can now accept new members.

I know how to shoot a gun, my father was a Republican.

How come senior clan members have a completely different layout to the other groups on the members section?
Also on the members section xfire username and bf2 pid need column headings saying what they are.

And where have the username colours gone?

I liked them... sad

The Senior Clan Members page has a different layout because there aren't as many and I want to give people the impression that they have a leadership role.

I know about the column headers not being displayed correctly. I'm probably going to change the columns anyway: "Enrollment Date" and "Contact" will be replacing them. The contact column will have little click-able icons (16 x 16 px) representing users' steam accounts, Xfire profiles, etc ... or something like that.

Coloured usernames will be restored
