Topic: Problems problems :)

So i decided to ask it here because we have some computer persons here...

1st: My vista 64bit doesnt like to do sleep, if i press it to go to sleep mode, it stays there for 1 min max and then starts up again. Even when it should sleep!!!
Fixed by Bios update and small setting changes.
Vista Clock falling behind also fixed with bios update

2nd: Overclocking fails, always.
My q9450 can be overclocked to 3.2 ghz with factory voltages, loads of people have done that.
But when i try to up my fsb, my computer always fails to boot at 1st time, (dual bios).
If i go to bios after that and re-set my overclock fsb back it boots up normally and works somehow.
Friend told me that it could be my ram sticks sad, On one forum the reason was my gfx card...
What i did was change fsb to 375 example (3ghz),
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) to 100,
change mem ratio so i dont overclock my ram,
I might have done something else too, but can't remember for sure...

Any change to fsb, seems to fuck my computer stability up...

My Computer build can be found from http://www.kntl.co.uk/topic/1383/comput … i-get-one/

Stuff fixed, Bios update was the one needed smile

Give me a kick when ur online - as i remember messing with the FSB is a bit more complicated than just changing voltages and multiplyers - ur GFX card shouldn't have too much of an effect on it but i'll figure it for 2moro when ur around smile

Im here smile
Oh and also my vista clock is falling behind, but im not sure is it happening while on computer.
Or when its not running but cable is plugged, some says that my mobo battery could be running low sad

When you are overclocking set your RAM frequency to the lowest possible. This is because raising the FSB will make the RAM go faster than what it is made for making it unstable. When you have finished your overclock you can then change the RAM frequency to as close as possible you can get to its original without exceeding it.

I did so, after changing fsb, locking PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) to 100 and changing ram ration.
It still is unstable, because of overclocking or so O.o
Really wierd sad

Strange. Do you have an aftermarket cooler or the one that came with it? Could be overheating.

I posted link of my system, well you might have missed it.
~~
- Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
- Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)
~~

Its not overheating, i know that.
Well it seems that this gigabyte mobo had some problems with some other stuff too, so i decided to flash it.
Now it seems that at least vista sleep function is working, maybe even overclocking works now.

Btw what kind of temp do you rec on air cooling quad core processor, or what is your personal max you wouldnt go further with, and with what program and which settings smile
I remember my cores hitting 70 °C under pressure when overclocked to 3.0 Ghz, or something like that...
With coretemp that was.

Yeah sorry missed the link. Colour too similar tongue

I'd just google around to see what temps your processor shouldn't exceed. That's what I did.

For testing stability I'd reccomend LinX.

Bear in mind that your temperatures will be a lot higher than normal when running this. If it gives you errors you need to lower your FSB or increase VCore.

For checking temperatures I use SpeedFan.

70C LinX temp is about where you want to stop with that CPU.

I heard Coretemp is taking your core heat, which will make the value a lot higher than what it is for other programs.
Its all about where they measure the temperature, some takes from cores, some takes from the surface of the processor and so on ~

So what program should i use for measuring the temperature, because it seems that mine is a bit too high all the time sad
Speedfan looks just so cheap smile

Edit: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Iv been using CoreTemp for sometime, but im worried that my idle temp are too high.
Usually when my computer aint doing nothing at all, or just listening music and so, my temps are
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/8823/asdsp6.jpg
(In stress going near 70)
That is without overclocking, now could i have messed up the installation of the processor fan or thermal paste? Or is it normal to be something like this?

I have the side stepping thing on, which lowers processor multiply down when its not needed that much, and also fan going with the temp.
I guess core temp is suppose to be this high sad
(Maybe i should lap my processor and so O.o ?)

check if the cpu cooler is mounted properly, push down all sides and see if you hear a click. its more than likely the paste isn't quite on correctly.

continueing on from mikes theory check the fan is running at the correct rpm, voltage and such and also check how you have your case cooling set up:

http://icrontic.com/articles/pc_airflow … ling_guide

http://www.heatsink-guide.com/content.p … case.shtml

Couple fo link above explain cooling especially the lower of the two, as i have had this problem before (all fans blowing out = vaccum = heats up quickly = fail pc shutdown every 5 minutes!!!! then tried all blowing in = wrong air pressures = no cool airflow = heats up even quicker= fail pc shutdown)

Mezmerization Must Begin!!!

Hmm, i gotta say that i had a small problem to get this one side of the fan to click down, i assume it could be that its not mounted properly...

Well lets say il try to fix it, shall i clean the paste and put new one and get it mounted right, or can i just force the corner down if its not all the way down atm?
Eh, after re-reading, il assume you want me to do it raight now without new paste smile

~

My case has 6 fans, and after i checked they should be...

Front, 2 x 120 mm blowing in
Side, 1 x 120mm blowing in
rear, 1 x 120mm blowing out
top 2 x 140 mm Blowing out

Note: Cpu fan is blowing at rear fan and the location of the fan is just sweet for that purpose...
Should i upload a screen?

Aircycle inside the case should be near good or perfect, but i assume i have wrong ammount of paste or the cpu fan aint mounted properly.
And that is because i didnt have any experience of installing em sad

Answer Pl0x!

Reply to: Problems problems :)

Well it seems that bios update took all of these problems away.
Im at 3Ghz with stress test (Prime95).
And heat is pretty much 66, 63, 62, 58 for the cores.
Well i think that is way too much, but i also know that the fan is not running max. A bit faster than before though.

Il think il remount the fan with new paste and all, because last time i didnt have the fan part taken out which made the mounting a bit harder.
After the installation i found out that it can be taken off for purpose to get better access to two of those "pins".

smile

Any paste/processor fan installation tips ?
or up to date tutorials O.o
