I updated parser.php. You must have downloaded that page at the exact same moment as my FTP deleted the original parser.php and started uploading the new one.
This means that your signatures will have not loaded properly. They will have stayed un-loaded until the signature cache grace period was exceeded. After which, the new parser would have been in place and the signature images would have been downloaded again - and downloaded properly since parser.php now exists.
Will my explanation suffice?
